The Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA) has described the contractor handling the road linking Oye and Are -Ekiti as incompetent.
The Chairman of the Agency, Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Oye-Ekiti.
Oguntoyinbo said the rural road linking Oye and Are -Ekiti has been awarded by the state government through RAAMP for over two years to a contractor and work on the road had stopped for many months.
He said only drainage has been constructed while the
bad portion of the road is currently affecting farmers, residents and indigenes of the two communities.
Oguntoyinbo, who is the Obalodo of Oye Kingdom, said he has spoken to the Coordinator of the Rural Access And Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) Mr Sunday Adunmo on several occasions but nothing meaningful has been done on the road.
” The road linking Oye and Are -Ekiti has been awarded to a contractor for more than two years and since then we have not seen any meaningful development on the road.
” According to a reliable information , the government have paid all the necessary funds to the contractor to complete the road project but decided to abandon the project.
” The contractor has failed woefully and prove a high level of incompetent and to further ridicule the communities, only the drainage of the road has been constructed since then.
” The community leaders and youths of Oye community have protested, they have made several appeal to the state government to look into it but we are yet to receive positive response,” he said.
The EKSEPA boss, appealed to the State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji intervene and give directive to the contractor to complete the project.
He explained that the farmers are currently suffering because the road was so bad that they could not transport their products from the farm to the market using vehicle.
” As a result of the bad road, our farmers are suffering because they are unable to bring their products from the farm to the market.
” If the road is completed , it will enhance transportation from Oye-Ekiti to Ado-Ekiti and give the farmers easy access to trade their products with other communities.
” It is on this note, I am appealing to our amiable governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji to come to our rescue and facilitate quick completion of Oye to Are -Ekiti road.” he said.
